THE OLD CAPTAIN'S HOUSE

Welcome to the Old Captain's House, a fabulous stone house located in a picturesque cove on the southern side of Brač island.
This will be your oasis of peace for an unforgettable vacation.

About us

MissionOur goal and philosophy at the Old Captain’s House is that we want to make sure that when you stay with us, you have a full wholesome experience, and not just a mere place to stay.

Our House is therefore aimed at people that love nature, organic food, sustainability, and the experience of local life. We strive to get better every day.

Sustainability - Everything you will see, feel or touch here is sustainable and linked with nature. The entire house is powered by solar panels, generating energy for both electricity and hot water.

The whole property is equipped with LED and outdoor solar lights. In front of the house there is a small garden with Mediterranean plants that is tended in a completely organic fashion, while organic waste is turned into fertilizer. We recycle and compost, so that nothing is thrown away.

Here you will experience authenticity and comfort off the grid.

About the house

The Old Captain's House is a beachfront house located in one of the loveliest and most peaceful coves on the southern side of Brač island.

The Old Captain’s House was once a very old stone house that has since been rebuilt by local craftsmen to its original splendor and stylishly furnished. The house has a stunning panoramic view over the sea and the surrounding islands of Vis, Hvar, and Paklenjaci.

If you are in love with nature, the shadow of pine trees, crystal clear turquoise seas, starry night skies, and need to escape the city noise and bustle, this is the perfect place for you! Here you can hear the wind, listen to the sound of the sea and the chirping of the crickets.

This holiday home offers a superb location right on a small beach in a secluded cove with no surrounding neighbors. It's a real paradise for children and nature lovers.

Just a few steps away, the pebble stone beach with its calm and tame sea, beckons one to swim there frequently.
Here you can savor the amazing view of the cove, smell the fresh air, and enjoy a truly calming atmosphere.

This eco-friendly and sustainable house is perfect for nature lovers, but also meets all the needs of modern man.

The house offers accommodation for 6 people in 3 bedrooms (2 bedrooms have double beds and 1 bedroom has 2 single beds). There are also 2 bathrooms in the house, one room with a toilet and a washing machine, and an indoor and outdoor kitchen with a dining and living area.

The fully-equipped kitchen will cater for all your needs - from a simple breakfast on the terrace to a dinner party.

The indoor kitchen equipment includes a 4-burner gas hob, a large refrigerator with a freezer, a range hood, a hand mixer, a coffee machine, and a complete set of utensils needed for the preparation and consumption of food.

In front of the house, there is a beautiful yard with a summer kitchen and an outdoor dining area furnished with a beautiful stone table. The outdoor kitchen is equipped with a large grill as well as utensils for preparing food on the grill, wood/charcoal, and a gas oven with a 4-burner gas hob.

The terrace which has a built-in barbecue and an imposing stone table will invite you to spend time there and relax.

In the yard, there are also two small saltwater pools available, one for adults and the other for children (with a total surface area of 16 m2).

The pools are located on the terrace and have a shaded area and six sun loungers.

During their stay, guests will have the entire house and yard for themselves, as well as a sufficient number of parking spaces right next to the house itself.

The entire property is eco-friendly and sustainable. The house receives electricity from solar panels, the water used in the house is actually rainwater, and the pool uses salt water which minimizes the use of any chemicals (for example, chlorine).

The experience of paddleboarding is at its most enjoyable in the morning and in the evening when the sea is much calmer.

Experience VIA BRATTIA, a 140 km long circular tourist trail that connects numerous settlements on the island of Brač and 12 of the island's most attractive cultural and historical locations. Vidova gora, the highest peak of all Croatian islands, is a must for trekking lovers and boasts well-marked trails. Please bring a supply of water, wear appropriate footwear, and remember to use sun protection or at least wear a hat or some type of head cover.

Cycling -
Brač is the island with the most - as many as 25! - well-maintained cycle routes and it's up to you to choose the one that suits you best. The routes were named after the island's patron saints, types of wind and even Mediterranean plants, and we are especially fond of the path named “Srce Brača” (Heart of Brač), which will show you not only the traditional Brač as it once was, but also enable you to discover ten medieval and Renaissance churches!

A very interesting route is also the Macića and Vivera route named after mythical creatures from local legends of the small town of Postira.

This cycle route will also take you to the oldest settlement in Brač, Škrip, and Dol - home of the famous Harpočuša cake, a cake filled with walnuts and hearty ingredients, which also looks like Brač karst! And if you want an ultimate cycling experience, take a dare and go on the longest of all trails – “Sv. Juraj” (St. George’s route)!

(For more information about cycle routes on the island of Brač, please visit the Split-Dalmatia County’s cycle tourism official website.)

Diving & Scuba diving - Dive into the incredible underwater world of the Croatian Adriatic. Discover the rich endemic plant and animal life, sunken Roman galleys, naval ships, and much more thanks to the extraordinary clarity of its waters and visibility of up to 50 meters.

Explore the deep on organized tours for experienced divers or enjoy your first time at one of the many diving schools for beginners.

Fishing - Croatia is an excellent place for fishing enthusiasts. From sport or recreational fishing to fishing competitions, big game fishing, and pike fishing, Brač is a top location for various kinds of fishing activities.

Experience the pleasure of spending quiet moments at sea in the early morning or late afternoon, discovering nearby coves, preparing food from the day's catch...

Nearby attractions

Blaca Monastery and Hermitage (“Pustinja Blaca”)-This monastery was founded in 1551 when Glagolitic priests from Poljica fled the Turks and established a new place for their research. In the now-abandoned monastery, one can find some 12,000 old books, many maps, files, notes and ethnographic exhibits, a press, a telescope, a piano, and other objects.

The Dragon’s Cave (“Zmajeva špilja”) is located 300 meters above the small village of Murvica, 5 kilometers west of Bol on the southern side of the island of Brač.  It represents a significant monument to cave and hermit life in which pagan and Christian views of the world come together. Decorated with a multitude of reliefs, the meaning of which has not been fully clarified even to this day, it is a place that will certainly not leave you indifferent.

Vidova Gora
is the highest point on the island of Brač and of all Croatian islands as well. At the top, there is a 12-meter-high monumental cross made of Brač stone. The peak is also known as Vidovica, Sveti Vid, and Sutvid, and was named after an old Croatian chapel whose remains are located about a hundred meters from the top.

The Olive Oil Museum (“Muzej uja”), located in Škrip, presents the process of olive oil production customary on the island of Brač. On display in the museum are olive mills and presses, spindles for the screw press, bags, a fireplace for heating water, and all traditional tools used for transporting, producing, and storing olive oil.

The Brač Island Museum (“Muzej otoka Brača”) is located in the Kashtil Radojkovich Fortress, a fortress built during the Venetian-Turkish wars which also contains a part of an ancient Illyrian wall and encompasses a remarkable Roman mausoleum. The museum collection includes household items, agricultural tools, and some very interesting ancient Roman carvings. slika

Brač is world-famous for its stone and stone carving tradition, so we suggest you visit the stone carving/stone masonry workshops and the Pučišća Stonemasonry School (“Klesarska škola Pučišća”), which has kept this skill on the island alive.

Milna is known as the safest seaport and one of the architecturally most harmonious examples of Baroque urbanism on the Dalmatian coast. The interesting Mediterranean ambiance and numerous cultural monuments bear witness to the long history of this place.

Here you can visit the monument to Vladimir Nazor, one of the most famous Croatian poets, or interesting religious buildings from the 14th century, such as the Church of St. John the Baptist or the Church of St. Martin.

There are many other interesting and picturesque places in Brač like Ložišća, Bobovišća, or Sutivan where you will feel as if time has stopped. Old Dalmatian streets, olive trees, and grape vines in the interior of this beautiful island will be the perfect oasis for your vacation.
